Top 5 Home Remedies To Get Rid Of Unpleasant Vagina Odour

Unpleasant vaginal odors can sometimes signal infections, such as sexually transmitted infections (STIs), or result from certain lifestyle habits.

It’s advisable to consult a doctor or gynecologist, but these home remedies may provide temporary relief.

What causes an unpleasant odor in the vagina?

A fishy scent is commonly linked to bacterial vaginosis, which can produce a strong, fishy smell following sexual activity, potentially due to the interaction between semen and vaginal fluids.

Trichomoniasis, an STI, may also lead to a pronounced fishy odor in the vagina.

Additionally, a forgotten tampon or any foreign object inside the vagina can produce foul smells.

It’s crucial to remove the object promptly to avoid toxic shock syndrome, a serious condition resulting from bacteria releasing toxins.

Moreover, urine spills, perspiration, and yeast infections can contribute to a chemical, musty, or yeasty aroma.

Here are some home remedies for tackling vaginal odor:

1. Fresh Garlic

Garlic is known for its strong antibacterial and antifungal properties, as well as being rich in fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants. It boosts the immune system and helps maintain a healthy balance of intestinal bacteria, which can decrease vaginal odor. To avoid bad breath associated with eating garlic, you can opt for raw garlic oil capsules available at pharmacies or natural health shops.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar

Using vinegar, particularly apple cider vinegar, is an effective method for reducing vaginal odor, as it helps remove the contaminants responsible for unpleasant scents. Its antibacterial properties and acidic composition work to eliminate odor-causing bacteria. You can mix two tablespoons of vinegar in warm water to drink, or take an apple cider vinegar bath once daily until the odor is resolved.

3. Guava Leaves Sitz Bath

Guava leaves possess antibiotic properties that can help with the treatment of vaginal infections, making them beneficial for reducing odor.

Heat one liter of water, then add guava leaves and let them steep for three to five minutes. Strain the mixture and pour it into a basin. Once it cools down, sit over the basin without any clothing to cleanse the genital area two to three times daily.

4. Baking Soda

Baking soda can help balance your body’s pH levels. Simply add half a cup of baking soda to your bath water and soak for about 20 minutes, or you can mix baking soda into a glass of warm water and drink it.

5. Pineapple

There are many anecdotal claims that pineapple can help reduce vaginal odor. However, there is no scientific backing for this. You might consider incorporating fresh pineapple into your diet or drinking one to two glasses of pineapple juice each day.

Lastly, remember to consult your healthcare provider for a proper diagnosis.
