Rivers State Government has asserted that its N800 billion 2024 budget meets all the legal requirements even when the current ruling of the Federal High Court nullifies the budget passed by the Edison Ehie-led faction.
On Wednesday, Peter Medee, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, stated that the budget have been approved by the law and is being put into action.
He further noted that disputing the validity of lawfully passed budget is a total waste of time and money.
He made the aforementioned statement on a radio program in Port Harcourt where he emphasized on the ruling of the court and Bright Amaewhule-led faction’s request to resubmit the budget for approval.
Note that on Tuesday, Amaewhule-led faction asked Governor Siminalayi Fubara to resubmit the budget for approval.
The state government resolved that the Ehie-led Assembly passed the budget and there is no reason for resubmission for further changes.
The government cautions that the seats held by Amaewhule-led faction are unoccupied due to their defection from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
