The Unified Nigeria Youth Forum (UNYF) has condemned a petition challenging Professor Aisha Sani-Maikudi\u2019s appointment as Acting Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University of Abuja.<\/p>\n
An appeal submitted to the Minister of Education, Dr Morufu Alausa, stated the appointment of Professor Aisha violated federal guidelines which questions the number of years, she served as a professor.<\/p>\n
During a press briefing in Abuja, UNYF\u2019s national deputy president, Comrade Oluwafemi Idowu Shoroye, stated that primary considerations for the vice- chancellor’s position are leadership skills and academic qualifications.<\/p>\n
He said, \u201cThere is no legal framework in Nigeria that stipulates a professor must have a certain number of years of experience before being eligible for appointment as vice chancellor.”<\/em><\/p>\n He listed most of the Universities that appointed vice-chancellors with limited professorial tenures.<\/p>\n \u201cExamples of universities that previously had professors with less than ten years\u2019 experience includes the University of Abuja, which previously appointed Dr Laraba Gambo Abdullahi, a PhD holder, as vice chancellor; Bayero University Kano, where Attahiru Jega, a PhD holder, served as vice chancellor without a lengthy tenure as a professor; and the University of Maiduguri, where the current vice chancellor was appointed just two years after becoming a professor.”\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n The group confirmed that Professor Sani-Maikudi is qualified for the position.<\/p>\n The group said, \u201cProfessor Sani-Maikudi is well-prepared to lead the University of Abuja towards progress and academic excellence.
