The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has cautioned the state against the potential risks it would face from climate changes.<\/p>\n
It was during the meeting with the state officials that he made the statement emphasizing on how Lagos is vulnerable to this risk.<\/p>\n
He mentioned that Lagos State is 180 kilometre shoreline and have dense population.<\/p>\n
He further noted that New York City also faced similar issues and effective measures should be taken to avoid such risk.<\/p>\n
He stated, \u201cIn Lagos State, because of our geogra\u00adphy, because of our popula\u00adtion, because of our size, we are 22 million, we occupy only 0.4% or less than 0.38% of the land mass of Nigeria, and we are responsible for 10% of the people.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cIn the UK, 14% is London City. The rest is the federal government. New York Un\u00adderground, the same thing. So how do we manage our lands?
