Vice President Shettima pays final respect to late Unongo

On Tuesday, during a tribute event in Makurdi, Benue State, Vice President Kashim Shettima was there to honour late Wantaregh Paul Iyorpuu Unongo, a former Minister of Steel Development in Nigeria’s Second Republic.

The prominent statesman passed away at the age of 87, on November 29, 2022. The events will last for a week and on Saturday, he will laid to rest in his hometown, Unongo village, Kwande Local Government Area.

In his tribute, Shettima said, “We gather here not just to mourn the passing of a great man but to celebrate the monumental life of Wantaregh Paul Iyorpuu Unongo. Pa Unongo lived not for himself but for the betterment of others.”

Vice President commended Unongo for his works during his time in leadership especially as the Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), after he succeeded Alhaji Maitama Sule.

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State and Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, praised Unongo for being an inspiration to many.
