On Monday, David Lammy, the United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary, visited the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the State House in Marina. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss UK’s new approach to the continent.
David Lammy was accompanied by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomery, and his deputy, Jonny Baxter.
He stated that Lagos is his first stop on his Africa tour while reflecting on the existing relationship between the two countries.
The Foreign Secretary noted that there have been a long-standing relationship between them since Lagos had a huge number of families whose relatives are in UK and London.
The envoy highlighted the significance of their collaboration which was strengthened through business, remittance and finance.
He further emphasized that UK has plans of partnering with Lagos for the expansion of clean energy consumption.
Sanwo-Olu told the British envoy that their country’s trade approach was in line with the state’s growth plan.
He further stated that Lagos has a large population of creative youths who are looking forward for new opportunities across the sectors and the state government have made investments to ensure that the youths develop their talents and skills.
