Simmy Biography: Age, Family, Education and Career

Simphiwe Majobe Nhlangulela, better known as Simmy, was born on July 9, 1994, and gained recognition as a prominent South African singer-songwriter in 2018 when she signed a record deal with EL World Music.

Her first studio album, “Tugela Fairy,” released in 2018, became a tremendous success, featuring hit singles such as “Ngiyesaba,” “Ubala,” and “Umahlalela,” and ultimately received Platinum certification from the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA).

In 2020, she released her second studio album, “Tugela Fairy (Made of Stars),” which made a remarkable debut, reaching number 3 in a specific country.

EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

After finishing her Social Sciences degree at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Simmy relocated to Johannesburg in 2015 to pursue her music career.

She had been introduced to Sun-El Musician by Sandile Sithole while studying at the university in 2013.

CAREER

Simmy’s musical journey began with a series of unsuccessful auditions for Idols South Africa and SA’s Got Talent.

After completing her studies, she signed with EL World Music in 2017, which led to the release of her debut album, “Tugela Fairy.”

Her single “Ubala,” featuring Sun-El Musician, achieved gold status, and the album itself received gold certification from RiSA for selling 25,000 copies.

Furthermore, her song “Umahlalela” was awarded a platinum plaque.

In 2019, Simmy was honored with the Best Female Vocalist award at the South African Dance Music Awards.

Her second studio album, “Tugela Fairy (Made of Stars),” was released in November 2020 and debuted at number 3 on the Apple Music Charts.

This album features collaborations with artists such as Mthunzi, S-Tone, and Da Capo, and it was nominated for Best Afro Pop Album at the 27th South African Music Awards.

To promote the album, Simmy held a special virtual concert and participated in the Shay’na nge White Star campaign.

In December 2023, she revealed her plans for her third studio album.

PERSONAL LIFE

Born in 1994, Simmy is the youngest of four siblings and was brought up by strict, elderly parents.

Growing up in a family with a strong musical background, she finds inspiration in her older brother and sister, both of whom are passionate about music, as well as in her father.
