The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has declared Deputy Superintendent of Customs (Pilot) Olanike Nafisat Balogun as its first female pilot.
In a statement issued by the Customs’ National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, stated that Olanike Balogun, native of Odo-Otin Local Government Area, Osun State joined the customs service in 2002 as a customs assistant.
He further noted that Balogun was a member of the cabin crew in the air wing unit her determination paved way for her.
Balogun stated the she faced so many challenges for choosing public service over aircraft deals.
She said, “It was a tough decision, but my goal was to contribute to public service and fulfil my dream of becoming a pilot.”
She earned a diploma in Air Ticketing and Cabin Services and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University.
Also, she obtained a pilot certification from the Flying Academy in Miami, Florida, sponsored by the NCS.
While encouraging the women and youths, she said, “Becoming the first female pilot in the NCS Airwing reflects my commitment to advancing both my dreams and the operational capabilities of the NCS.”
