Kingsley Okonkwo, a Nigerian singer also known as KCee has responded to Flavors subtle criticism of his latest music release.
Flavour appears to have thrown shade at KCee, posting a message condemning someone for copying him, without explicitly mentioning KCee’s name, but implying it was directed at him.
Maria Ude Nwachi a social media user and acclaimed reporter had claimed Flavour is upset with KCee and E-Money, alleging they sabotaged his collaboration with Phyno and Theresa Onuoha by rushing to release a similar song first.
Another user accused KCee of habitually sampling Flavour’s songs.
KCee responded to Flavour, stating that he shouldn’t attempt to gatekeep Igbo culture, emphasizing that it belongs to everyone and not exclusively to him. KCee asserted his seniority in the music industry and pointed out that his music honors his heritage, while also highlighting that no artist is tied to a specific genre.
“I’ve never been the type to go head to head, but I’m calling out this bullshit because I won’t be disrespected…
No way… I’ve come too far for anyone to downplay my sweats and hard work
HELL NO!!!!”.
“Stop trying to gatekeep Igbo culture. You’re not a Custodian.
I’ve been in this game before you
It belongs to all.
You don’t own this genre of music.
My music celebrates our heritage, and I won’t apologize.
In an ocean of things that matter. You’re like a needle.
Get that right”.
“BRO!!!!!! We are not on the same level
Pick your Battles carefully”.
KCee faced similar criticism earlier this year when a YBNL fan accused him of sampling Olamide and Asake’s “Amapiano” without permission, stating that Olamide has consistently support and influence on Igbo artists.
