EARLY LIFE

Kweku Gyasi Ghartey, better known as Jay Ghartey, is a Ghanaian artist currently residing in New York City. He fuses African Rhythm and Blues in his music.

His debut album, “Shining Gold,” was released in 2011, and he is popular for tracks like “My Lady” and “Papa.”

Together with his brother Joe Ghartey, he operates GH Brothers, an independent record label and production company. Jay has ties to Ghana, particularly to the Fante tribe.

CAREER

He started his music career in Ghana as a rapper and was part of the group Chief G and the Tribe before relocating to New York to work with his brother on music production.

Ghartey’s music is a unique blend of R&B, Hip Hop, Highlife, and Hiplife, drawing inspiration from various genres. He is also active in charitable endeavors, including the GH Brothers Youth Foundation in Accra.

In September 2010, he launched his first album “Shining Gold” in Ghana, which includes 12 tracks that pay homage to Ghanaian music icons like Kojo Antwi and George Darko.

His music has received international acclaim, with songs like “My Lady” enjoying considerable airplay on Channel O.

Jay Ghartey made history as the first Ghanaian artist featured on BET’s 106 & Park with his song “Papa,” and he has collaborated with artists such as AJ Nelson, Samini, and Sarkodie.

Jay Ghartey and Joe Ghartey are committed to enhancing education through the GH Brothers Youth Foundation and creating opportunities for disadvantaged students.

They established the Nima Charity School, which serves over 150 students.

Jay Ghartey intends to further this effort by constructing two additional schools in Winneba and Cape Coast, which are his ancestral hometowns.
