Former Senate President set to be buried after three years in UK mortuary

Former Nigerian Senate President, Dr. Joseph Wayas will be buried on November 30, 2024 after staying in UK mortuary after three years.

In a statement issued by the Secretary of the Central Planning Committee, Dr. Dorn-Cklaimz Enamhe confirmed that the arrangements for the burial were ongoing.

Dr. Joseph Wayas served as Senate President from 1979 to 1983, before he died at the age of 80 in a London hospital on November 30, 2024.

Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu and other supporters helped to bring his body to Nigeria in July 2024.

Governor Otu expressed his commitment stating how he would make sure that all the Cross River natives who died abroad would be brought back for burial.

The funeral will start with a ceremony at UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar before he will be buried in his hometown of Bassang, Obanliku Local Government Area.
