Dermatologist Caution Against Using Lemon On Skin

Social media platforms often showcase homemade skincare recipes and DIY videos, suggesting that kitchen ingredients are beneficial for our skin.

However, this isn’t always true. Blindly applying natural products without caution can harm skin health.

In a recent podcast, dermatologist Dr. Aanchal Panth of Dermafollix Hair Transplant and Skin Clinic, joined YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia to debunk common misconceptions about using lemons, orange peel, and apple cider vinegar on the skin.

Dr. Aanchal Panth warns against using lemon on skin, citing its acidic and photosynthetic properties that increase sun sensitivity. Common home remedies like lemon, crushed orange peel, and apple cider vinegar for dark circles are actually detrimental to skin health.

While lemon’s acidity helps kill bacteria on acne, its harm outweighs benefits. The temporary brightening effect from lemon’s bleaching properties creates a misleading impression of effectiveness. Instead, it stretches dark spots, causing long-term damage.

Dr. Panth also draws a parallel with red wine, highlighting that while it contains antioxidants, drinking alcohol is not recommended, illustrating that beneficial properties don’t necessarily outweigh potential harm.

Dr. Aanchal Panth emphasized that alcohol should be avoided for maintaining healthy skin. Many people believe that a glass of red wine can benefit the skin due to its antioxidant content.

However, opting for healthier sources of antioxidants is preferable. The effects of alcohol on the skin are often immediate; after a night of heavy drinking, one may experience puffiness around the eyes and dry, taut skin.

A quick remedy involves a mixture of salt, sugar, and water to help rehydrate the body.

Impact of Sugar on Skin:

In the short term, consuming sugar can lead to acne, while the long-term effects include the formation of Advanced Glycation End Products. Sugar attaches to proteins and disrupts collagen in the skin, hindering the healing process.

How can you achieve skin like Deepika Padukone, Ananya Panday, and other stars?

The dermatologist clarified that, in addition to their genetic factors and dietary choices, these celebrities adhere to a rigorous exercise routine that promotes healthy skin and better aging.

They are highly selective about their diet and lifestyle as well.

Moreover, their facial features and bone structure also play a significant role in their appearance.
