Nigerian comedian Funny Bone has criticized Reno Omokri, a politician and social commentator, for his remarks on the Equatorial Guinea sex scandal.
It was reported few day’s back that Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the head of Equatorial Guinea’s financial crime agency, ANIF, is at the center of a massive scandal after private tapes of him engaging in sexual activities with multiple women surfaced online. These women include his brother’s wife, cousin, and shockingly, the sister of Equatorial Guinea’s President. The investigation that led to the discovery of over 300 explicit tapes was initially launched due to allegations of fraud. It’s worth noting that some of the women involved are married to influential figures in the country, making this scandal even more explosive. As a result, Baltasar is reportedly detained amid accusations linked to these explicit videos.
Weighing into the matter Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, made it clear that he wouldn’t divorce his wife, Margaret Brownson, even if she cheats on him.
Going on, Reno Omokri questioned the president’s priorities, suggesting that if he’s okay with infidelity in his personal life, he may also tolerate corruption in his administration. Omokri’s statement implies that the president’s stance on personal fidelity reflects his potential attitude toward government officials embezzling funds.
Reno Omokri essentially said that a president who tolerates infidelity in their personal life will attract people like Balthazar Ebang, who was recently embroiled in a sex scandal, into their inner circle.
“If you don’t care if your wife is having affairs outside, how will you care if your officials are stealing government money? Look at the matter rationally. Are you saying that you will value government money more than your wife’s fidelity? Then why did you name your bank Fidelity Bank? If that is what fidelity means to you, then is our money safe in your bank?
A President who does not care if his wife has affairs outside will breed many Balthazar Ebang Engongas around him. It is a very indecent thing to have said and is indicative of disrespect for the sanctity of marriage. Such a person lacks the moral authority to be the President of Nigeria and may want to move to a country where his lax morals align with their way of life.
To even say such a thing in public is shameful!”.
Funny Bone called out Reno Omokri, saying his comment was below him and urging him to let some things go.
“Reno!!
This is beneath you.
Too low for your standards.
Too low. Learn to let some things slide.
This one, no enter, bro”.
Actress Sarah Martins also sparked controversy with her comments on the sex scandal, describing the man at the center, Baltasar Ebang Engonga, as “every woman’s dream man” due to his alleged exceptional skills and qualities in bed. She claimed some women willingly engaged with him, while others were reportedly offered to him to settle their husbands’ debts or clear their records.
Moreso Rapper Eva Alordiah weighed in on the scandal, using the opportunity to highlight the often-overlooked issue of sexual dissatisfaction in marriage. On Twitter (now X), she emphasized that many women suffer silently in unfulfilling sexual relationships, leading some to seek satisfaction elsewhere. Alordiah criticized men for often neglecting to address or understand their partners’ needs, contributing to the problem.
